WORLD MARITIME DAY 2021: “Seafarers: at the core of Shipping’s future”

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber welcomes the celebrations of the “World Maritime Day” which has been established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and celebrated globally every year at the end of September.
The purpose of this day is to underline the significant role of Shipping, which has been further highlighted during the ongoing pandemic, since it continued moving 90% of world trade. In addition, it highlights the significant progress made by the global Shipping Industry over the years, on matters regarding the safety and protection of the marine environment.
This year the IMO is focusing “World Maritime Day” around the frontline workers of Shipping with the theme, “Seafarers: at the core of Shipping’s future”, seeking to increase the visibility of seafarers by drawing attention to the invaluable role they play now and will continue to play in the future.
On the occasion of “World Maritime Day”, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and a number of its Member-companies, participated at a Beach Cleaning initiative of Akti Olympion B’, organsised by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, on 30 September 2021.
Within the framework of the “World Maritime Day” celebrations, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), has produced a film with the message of the IMO Secretary General, Mr. Kitack Lim, promoting this year’s theme.
